Integrated Riverside Condo

When you integrate an entire home, particularly with automation, lighting, and security, the scope of work includes every room in the house. You can see from the pictures that our work took us from the great room to the bedrooms, to the kitchen, to the basement, to the patio. Not featured in the images is work we did in the garage, stairways, and exteriors.

For the lighting, we installed dimmers, keypads, switches, and fan controllers to provide smart lighting throughout the home. The programming included, but was not limited to, having the exterior lights turn off and on at sunrise and sunset, and having pathway lighting come on if entering the home through the basement.

For security, a DSC system was installed and integrated with the Control4 home automation system. We placed two keypads (one at the front door and one at the basement entry) for easy arming and disarming of the alarm. By having security integrated, and not separate from the rest of the home, the homeowner can use just the Control4 app to check the status of the alarm on the app, while also checking on the lighting and other features while away.

In the great room, we installed a TV above the fireplace on a tilt mount, which is customary when placing a TV in a higher than eye-level spot. To achieve 5.1 Surround sound in this room, we used in-ceiling speakers and a small, floor-standing subwoofer.

In the bedrooms, bath, and basement living area, we wall-mounted TVs with HDMI extenders to allow users to select from and control any source (cable, satellite, AppleTV) connected to the system. Each of these rooms can be controlled via handheld Control4 remote control or via the Control4 app. Additionally, the master bedroom has a 7" touchscreen above the lighting panel that can control the security system, and it also had added intercom capabilities.

The same was all done in the kitchen, except the kitchen required additional audio capabilities, so we added two in-ceiling speakers over the island. We also put a touchscreen in this room, since it sees so much use. The interface on the touchscreen makes it really simple to control music, lighting, and the thermostat. Because it does see so much activity, a dome camera was put in the corner to be able to monitor activity in the room from anywhere.

On the outdoor patio, we installed a lot of the same equipment as elsewhere, hanging the large TV on the same type of tilt mount, and like in other rooms, we added power conditioning behind the TV to help protect the devices. Again, we added in-ceiling speakers and a dome camera.

Cameras were also added to the garage, and here we tied the doors to the automation system, allowing the homeowners to raise and lower them from the interface. Two tilt sensors were placed directly on the doors to detect and then show in the app when the doors are opened or closed.

With so much necessary equipment, we dedicated a small closet to housing the equipment rack. This served to keep each room free from clutter, keep everything in one location for servicing, and ensure the items are properly spaced for ventilation.
