Bricks And Minifigs Lego Store

Network and security for a unique retail space

About This Project

Project Overview

When this client came to us, they needed a reliable, secure, and easy-to-use technology backbone for their shop. It needed to be something that would support both day-to-day operations and customer experiences. Their existing setup was a mix of older wiring, consumer-grade equipment, and piecemeal solutions that made things harder than they needed to be. Our job was to design and install a professional-grade network, audio system, and video display solution that tied everything together while keeping future growth in mind.

Network: Building a Strong Foundation

We started where every modern business should: the network. A new secure gateway and network switch formed the foundation, all neatly organized in a small wall-mounted rack in the back office. To ensure fast, reliable Wi-Fi throughout the space, we installed six ceiling-mounted wireless access points inside, plus one outdoor-rated unit for coverage outside.

We also added an IP-based power conditioner, which may not sound exciting, but it makes a huge difference. Not only does it protect against power surges, but it also allows us to troubleshoot remotely, saving time and minimizing downtime if issues ever arise.

Audio: Refreshing the Sound System

The shop already had speakers and in-wall volume controls, but the wiring wasn’t up to commercial standards. We replaced the old CAT wiring with proper speaker cable, then connected everything to a new 8-channel commercial amplifier. This setup gives the client a reliable, professional-grade system that can easily power all the zones in the shop.

For music playback, we added a Sonos Port. This allows staff to stream music seamlessly throughout the store. All zones play the same source, while each area’s volume is still controlled by the in-wall knobs, keeping it simple and intuitive for everyday use.

All the audio gear, including a small power conditioner and network switch, was neatly organized on the existing shelving in the front closet.

Video: Engaging Displays Where They Matter Most

For the visual side of the project, we installed a total of eight commercial-grade displays across the space. Each was chosen and mounted to best serve the area it supports:

65" Displays

Near the speaker equipment closet, mounted on a tilting bracket

Behind the main counter, also on a tilting mount

Behind the trade-in “bar,” mounted for visibility

In the party room, installed on a mobile TV cart for flexibility

55" Displays

Two units mounted behind the POS “bar” stations, integrated into existing cutouts for a clean, built-in look.

Two units mounted on full-motion arms in cubbies, giving staff flexibility to angle them as needed.

Each display was paired with its own small power conditioner to ensure clean, reliable power.

The Result

By the end of the project, the client had a secure and scalable network, a refreshed audio system that makes use of their existing hardware, and a suite of vibrant displays strategically placed throughout the shop. Everything is intuitive for the staff to operate, while the behind-the-scenes technology is built to commercial standards for reliability and longevity.

The result is a shop that sounds better, looks sharper, and runs smoother, all thanks to a technology infrastructure designed to work together seamlessly.
