Luxury Whole-Home Entertainment

This new-construction estate home was designed from the framing stage to have technology in every room, and the finished system covers more than forty spaces: a theater, a pool and poolhouse, kitchens, porches, bedrooms and bathrooms, a hidden game room, a fitness room, garages, and the front gate. It is one of the largest residential systems we have built, and one of the most invisible.

The theater runs a Sony 4K laser projector on a 120-inch screen with in-wall front speakers, in-wall surrounds, a 12-inch subwoofer, and a Sony ES receiver, controlled by Control4. The family room has a 77-inch Sony OLED with a Sonos 5.1 system, in-ceiling rear speakers, and a Sonos Sub; the formal living room pairs its television with in-wall speakers flanking the fireplace. Televisions and Sonos audio continue through the master suite, both children's suites, the bonus room, the game rooms, and the office, twenty screens in all, each with a remote-controlled power conditioner behind it so any one of them can be rebooted from the app.

Outside, the poolhouse, the family porch, and the formal living porch each carry a television on the stone or brick wall with four all-weather ceiling speakers and a Sonos Amp; the pool itself has six landscape speakers and a buried 12-inch subwoofer. Some 370 feet of fiber runs to the front gate, where an outdoor switch brings the network to the entry equipment, and the detached garage door is on the Control4 system as well.

The backbone is a Ubiquiti network with multiple 48- and 24-port PoE switches, a Control4 controller with six 10-inch in-wall touchscreens, Yale keypad locks, thermostats and shades integrated into the same app, and a surveillance system of more than twenty cameras on two recorders, viewable from any touchscreen or television. A DSC security system rounds it out. The home's structured cabling was run by EPB as part of the build, and our design specified how every run would be labeled and terminated so the two crews could hand off cleanly.
