Baylor School Chapel
Audio and video for a historic school chapel
About This Project
Baylor School's Alumni Chapel is a stone Gothic sanctuary with a soaring window at the front, wooden pews, and the acoustics that come with a room that beautiful. The school asked us to give it a modern audio, video, and control system that respected the architecture, and to bring the adjoining Old Chapel onto the same system.
Audio is built on Biamp Tesira servers with Dante networking, three Dante-enabled amplifiers, and a proAV network switch. The sanctuary's speakers are two custom Community line-array columns on custom rigging, installed where the old speakers had been, with small point-source monitors for the side rooms. The chapel organ is integrated into the system. Twelve hardwired microphone connections surround the stage, and twelve Shure ULX-D wireless microphones, four handhelds and eight lapels on three quad receivers, charge in docking stations between services, with an RF Venue antenna distribution system to prevent dropouts.
Video runs through a Crestron 8x8 DigitalMedia matrix to two laser projectors with long-throw lenses and two motorized screens of roughly 170 inches flanking the great window, with an HDMI wall plate and Crestron AirMedia for wireless presentation from any device. A Dante adapter feeds clean audio to the school's streaming camera.
The whole system is run from a Crestron CP4 processor and two 10-inch in-wall touchscreens, one beside the stage and one at the front corner of the balcony, with a 12-fader controller at the rear for services that need hands-on mixing. Pages for scenes, video, audio, and microphones are simple enough for any faculty member to run, and can be locked with a PIN.
In the Old Chapel, a Sony laser projector was integrated with the existing screen, a Biamp TesiraForte handles audio and up to four existing microphones, three HDMI wall plates and a second AirMedia serve presenters, and a 10-inch touchscreen near the stage controls the room. Both racks were re-dressed, labeled, and put on IP-controlled power conditioning so we can support the system remotely.
