Party Barns
Dual entertainment barn spaces with independent AV systems
About This Project
Our clients wanted two separate and distinct entertaining spaces, so they built two barns-one that has a more casual, sporty feel, and another for more formal entertaining that can accommodate larger groups.
In the smaller barn there is a small theater that doubles as a golf simulator, with a garage on the lower level. In this building, our job was to provide a high-end, theater-grade sound system. The system would need to integrate with the existing golf simulator to provide audio from the simulator's PC to play through the theater speakers. To achieve great sound quality, we installed in-wall and in-ceiling speakers at various points in the room, as well as in-wall subwoofers.
The client needed a control system to run these AV components, control the lighting, and raise and lower the motorized shades, so we went with a Control4 processor that consisted of a wall-mounted touch screen, as well as a handheld remote control. The room can be run from either device in largely the same way.
To house all the new and existing equipment, we put in a small equipment rack. It holds the receivers, amplifiers, AppleTV, Blu-Ray player, network switch, and power conditioner.
In the lower garage level, we installed a Sony 55" TV with a Sonos Beam soundbar hung just below the TV. We also added four in-ceiling speakers and a Sonos amplifier to power them.
We also improved the building's network by installing an enterprise grade router, two switches, two indoor access points, and one outdoor access point.
For the larger barn, we installed a Sony 85" TV above the fireplace on an extra-large, heavy-duty tilt mount to account for both the size and height of the TV. The great room is very large and really demands a TV of that size. As you can see in the photos, it fits the space very well. In each corner, we also placed a Sony 75" TV to accommodate a variety of entertaining scenarios.
In the kitchen, we installed a pair of 6" in-ceiling speakers, and we used a Sonos amplifier to power them. These provide high quality audio, or the sound from the TVs can be extended to the kitchen if so desired in that space.
We also improved the network capabilities in this barn as well, by adding two wireless access points, one outdoor access point, and a 16-port network switch in the equipment rack to distribute the network signal to TVs, amplifiers, and all access points.
The equipment rack for this structure is housed in a storage room and it houses the aforementioned equipment, plus the client's existing AV equipment, as well as a 12-outlet IP power conditioner.
The improvements and additions we made in each of the barns enhance their overall functionality and entertaining capabilities. Our clients no longer have to worry about insufficient network coverage or inadequate audio, and everything is now tied together with a cohesive and user-friendly control system.
