Bonus Room Golf Simulator
Golf simulator setup in a versatile bonus room
About This Project
A bonus room over the garage had become a golf simulator, with a hitting bay, a turf floor, and a Trackman launch monitor throwing the course onto an impact screen. What it lacked was sound, and a way to run the room without juggling three remotes. We added both without disturbing the simulator setup.
A Sonos Amp in the simulator's PC cabinet drives a single in-ceiling stereo speaker, placed between the projector and the downlight so it clears the swing path, plus a compact subwoofer beside the cabinet. Audio from the projector is fed back to the amp, so whatever plays through the projector, the simulator software or a movie, plays through the overhead speaker. The homeowner's Apple TV was installed in the cabinet with a long HDMI run to the projector through the existing conduit, which turns the bay into a theater when nobody is swinging.
A small Control4 processor and an SR-260 remote put the room on the same Control4 app the rest of the house already uses. The home's wireless access point was relocated into the cabinet with a small network switch so the simulator PC, the Apple TV, the access point, and the controller are all hardwired, and a power conditioner protects everything in the cabinet.
