Gorgeous Nashville Remodel
Smart home technology in a stunning renovation
About This Project
A full renovation of a Nashville home gave us the chance to wire the house properly while the walls were open, so that the finished rooms would have audio and video built in rather than added on. The living room is the showpiece: a large television set into a custom wall of built-ins with lighted shelving, with Sonance speakers installed above so the sound comes from the architecture rather than a soundbar on the shelf.
The wiring plan reached the rest of the house as well: the kitchen, the screened porch, the master bedroom and bath, the study, the laundry, and a gaming room each received the network and speaker cabling they needed, with additional runs for motorized shades, cameras, and the front door so those systems could be added without opening the walls again. Sonance in-ceiling and in-wall speakers were installed in the study and master bedroom, and conduit was left in place for future runs.
It is the kind of project we recommend to anyone renovating: the cost of a cable during construction is small, and the cost of the same cable afterward is a patched wall.
