How Remote Camera Access Works

Your security cameras record to a local DVR or NVR (Digital/Network Video Recorder) in your equipment rack. To view cameras from outside your home, your system needs to be configured for remote access.

Viewing Options

From the Control4 app: If your cameras are integrated with Control4, you can view live feeds directly in the app. Navigate to Cameras in the app menu and select the camera you want to view.
From the Luma app (if applicable):
  1. Download the Luma app on your phone
  2. Log in with the credentials provided during installation
  3. Select your recorder to view live cameras or play back recorded footage

Troubleshooting Remote Access

Can't see cameras from away:
  1. Check that your home internet is working
  2. Make sure the recorder is powered on (check equipment rack)
  3. Restart the recorder by unplugging it for 30 seconds
  4. Verify port forwarding is configured on your router (Smart Systems sets this up during installation)
Live view is laggy or low quality:
  • This is usually due to limited upload speed at your home
  • Try switching from HD to standard quality in the app if available
  • Wi-Fi viewing will generally be more reliable than cellular
