Routine Maintenance for Long-Lasting Equipment

A little routine maintenance keeps your equipment performing at its best.

Monthly

  • Check battery levels — Look for low battery warnings in Control4 for smart locks, sensors, and shades
  • Test your security system — Arm and disarm to make sure it responds correctly
  • Verify camera feeds — Check that all cameras are recording and providing clear images

Every 3 Months

  • Clean TV and display screens — Use a microfiber cloth with screen cleaner (never spray directly)
  • Dust your equipment rack — Gently dust the front and sides to maintain airflow
  • Clean outdoor camera housings — Wipe lenses and check for spider webs or debris

Every 6 Months

  • Clean projector filters — Check and clean the air filter
  • Test battery backups — Check the status LED on your WattBox or UPS
  • Inspect outdoor equipment — Check speakers, access points, and cameras for weather damage

Annually

  • Schedule a Smart Systems check-up — We can review your entire system and apply updates
  • Replace projector lamp — If heavy use (3+ hours daily)
  • Review your security system — Update codes, review user access, test sensors

What to Avoid

  • Do not spray cleaners directly on electronics — Always spray onto a cloth first
  • Do not block ventilation — Keep space around equipment racks and amplifiers
  • Do not press reset buttons unless directed by Smart Systems
  • Do not unplug equipment without proper shutdown — Use the app or keypad to turn things off
