Common Sonos Issues
Sonos speakers rely on your home network to function. When a Sonos device disappears from the app or stops playing, it is almost always a network connectivity issue.
Quick Fixes
- Check that the speaker is powered on — Look for the small LED on the front. White = normal, orange = startup, no light = unplugged
- Restart the Sonos speaker — Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait 60 seconds for it to reconnect
- Check your Wi-Fi — Make sure your phone is on the same network as the Sonos (not the guest network)
- Close and reopen the Sonos app — Force-close the app completely, then reopen it
If the Speaker Still Doesn't Appear
- Restart your router and access points — Follow the network restart guide
- Check for Sonos updates — Open the Sonos app and go to Settings > System > System Updates
- Make sure the speaker is within range — Sonos needs a strong network signal to operate reliably
Sonos After a Power Outage
After a power outage, Sonos speakers may take 2-5 minutes to fully reconnect. If they do not come back, restart your network equipment first, then power cycle the speakers.
When to Contact Smart Systems
If a Sonos device continually drops off or won't reconnect after troubleshooting, there may be a network issue that requires a site visit.
