Setting Up and Managing Your Guest Wi-Fi Network

How to find, share, and manage your guest Wi-Fi network to keep your main network secure.

Network & Wi-Fi

Why Use a Guest Network?

A guest network keeps visitors' devices isolated from your primary network. This protects your smart home devices, security cameras, and personal computers from unauthorized access.

How Your Guest Network Works

Most Smart Systems installations include a separate guest network that is:
  • On a different subnet from your main network
  • Unable to access your smart home devices, printers, or file shares
  • Configured with its own password that you can share freely

Finding Your Guest Network Password

  1. Look for a network name that includes "Guest" (e.g., "SmithHome-Guest")
  2. The password may be on a card provided during installation
  3. If you have a UniFi system, the password can be found in the UniFi app under Settings > Wi-Fi

Changing Your Guest Password

For security, we recommend changing your guest password periodically. Contact Smart Systems to update it, or if you have access to the UniFi controller:
  1. Open the UniFi app or web portal
  2. Navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi
  3. Select your guest network
  4. Update the password and save
All currently connected guest devices will need to reconnect with the new password.
