Identifying Dead Zones
A Wi-Fi dead zone is an area in your home where the wireless signal is too weak to maintain a reliable connection. Common dead zone locations include basements, far corners of the house, outdoor patios, and rooms with thick walls or large metal objects.
Quick Checks Before Calling Us
- Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone and walk to the problem area
- Check the signal strength indicator — if it shows one bar or no connection, you have a dead zone
- Try connecting to both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks if available — 2.4GHz has better range through walls
Steps to Try
- Restart your access points — Unplug the access point nearest to the dead zone for 30 seconds, then plug it back in
- Check for interference — Large appliances, baby monitors, and metal surfaces can interfere with Wi-Fi signals
- Verify the access point is powered on — Check that the LED on your Ubiquiti access point is solid white (normal operation)
When to Contact Smart Systems
