Symptoms
- Guest network SSID doesn't appear
- Guests connect but can't reach any websites
- Guest network is extremely slow
Troubleshooting Steps
- Verify the guest network is enabled — Check your router settings or controller to confirm the guest SSID is active and broadcasting.
- Check the guest portal — Some guest networks use a captive portal (a login page). If the portal page fails to load, guests won't get internet. Try opening a browser and navigating to http://neverssl.com to trigger it.
- Check bandwidth limits — Guest networks are often rate-limited. Make sure the limit isn't set too low (we recommend at least 10 Mbps down).
- Verify VLAN isolation — Guest networks should be on a separate VLAN. If the VLAN configuration is incorrect, guests may be blocked from internet access.
Smart Systems Tip
We set up guest networks on an isolated VLAN so visitors get internet access but can't see or reach your internal devices (cameras, NAS, AV systems). If you need us to adjust guest network settings, just reach out.
