Why the Control4 App Won't Connect

The Control4 app on your phone or tablet communicates with your home's Control4 controller over your local network. If the app can't connect, it is usually a network issue.

Quick Fixes

  1. Check your Wi-Fi — Make sure your phone is connected to your home network (not cellular data or a guest network)
  2. Force-close and reopen the app — Swipe the app away completely, then reopen it
  3. Restart your phone or tablet — This clears cached network connections
  4. Check the controller — Look at your Control4 controller (EA-1, EA-5, or HC-800) in the equipment rack. It should have a solid green or white LED

If the App Still Won't Connect

  1. Restart the Control4 controller — Unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait 2-3 minutes for it to fully boot
  2. Restart your network — Follow the network restart guide to reboot your router and switch
  3. Check for app updates — Go to the App Store or Google Play and update the Control4 app if an update is available

Remote Access (Away from Home)

If you are trying to use the app away from home:
  • Make sure Remote Access is enabled in your Control4 account at customer.control4.com
  • Check that your home internet is working (ask someone at home to verify)
  • Try switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data on your phone
