How to Change Your Wi-Fi Password

Instructions for updating your Wi-Fi network password, and what to expect after the change.

Network & Wi-Fi

Important: Before You Change It

Changing your Wi-Fi password will disconnect every device on your network. This includes phones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, streaming boxes, smart home devices (thermostats, lights, locks, cameras), and audio systems (Sonos, etc.). All devices will need to be reconnected with the new password.

How to Change It

For Smart Systems-managed networks, please contact us so we can update the password across all access points simultaneously and help you reconnect critical systems.
If you'd like to do it yourself:
  1. Log into your router's admin panel (typically at 192.168.1.1 or via the manufacturer's app).
  2. Navigate to Wireless SettingsSecurity.
  3. Change the password/passphrase.
  4. Save and apply. The network will restart.

Recommendations

  • Use a strong password: 12+ characters, mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  • Avoid dictionary words or personal information.
  • Consider keeping a separate guest network with a simpler password for visitors.
