Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting

Devices frequently drop their Wi-Fi connection and need to reconnect, or the connection cuts out intermittently.

Network & Wi-Fi

Symptoms

  • Devices lose connectivity for a few seconds to a few minutes, then reconnect
  • You get "No Internet" warnings even though you're connected to Wi-Fi
  • Smart home devices go offline periodically

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check if it affects all devices or just one — If only one device disconnects, the issue is likely with that device. Try "forgetting" the network and reconnecting.
  2. Check access point placement — APs mounted in hot attics or enclosed cabinets can overheat and drop connections.
  3. Look for interference — Microwaves, baby monitors, cordless phones, and neighboring networks on the same channel can cause drops.
  4. Update firmware — Outdated access point firmware is a common cause of instability.
  5. Check your DHCP lease settings — Very short lease times can cause temporary disconnections as devices renew their IP address.
  6. Review roaming settings — If you have multiple access points, aggressive roaming settings can cause devices to bounce between APs too frequently.

When to Contact Us

Intermittent disconnections often require diagnostic tools to identify the root cause. We can run a wireless survey to pinpoint interference sources and optimize your channel and power settings.
