Wi-Fi Dead Zones in Your Home or Office

Certain rooms or areas have weak or no Wi-Fi coverage, even though other areas work fine.

Network & Wi-Fi

Symptoms

  • No signal or very weak signal in specific rooms
  • Devices in certain areas can't connect or have extremely slow speeds
  • Coverage drops past a certain floor or wing of the building

Common Causes

  • Building materials — Concrete walls, brick, metal studs, and foil-backed insulation block Wi-Fi signals significantly.
  • Distance — Standard routers have limited range, especially on the 5 GHz band.
  • Floor-to-floor coverage — Signals weaken considerably between floors.
  • Appliance interference — Large appliances, HVAC systems, and electrical panels can block signals.

What You Can Do

  1. Test signal strength — Use a Wi-Fi analyzer app (e.g., WiFiman by Ubiquiti) to map signal levels throughout your space.
  2. Reposition your router — If it's in a corner or closet, moving it to a more central location can help.
  3. Check for obstructions — Make sure nothing is physically blocking or sitting on top of your access points.

Smart Systems Solution

We install enterprise-grade access points (UniFi, Ruckus, Araknis) with strategic placement based on a professional wireless site survey. Every dead zone is eliminated with proper AP placement and power tuning — no consumer mesh pucks needed.
