# Wi-Fi Interference From Other Devices

Other electronic devices in your home or office are interfering with your Wi-Fi signal, causing slowdowns or disconnections.

Network & Wi-Fi

### Common Interference Sources

- **Microwave ovens** — Operate on the 2.4 GHz band and can disrupt Wi-Fi while in use.
- **Baby monitors** — Many use 2.4 GHz frequencies.
- **Cordless phones** (older DECT models)
- **Bluetooth devices** — Also operate on 2.4 GHz.
- **Neighboring Wi-Fi networks** — Especially in apartments, condos, or dense office buildings.
- **USB 3.0 devices** — Can generate interference that affects 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

### What to Do

1. **Switch to 5 GHz** — The 5 GHz band is much less crowded and isn't affected by microwaves or baby monitors.
2. **Change your Wi-Fi channel** — Use a Wi-Fi analyzer to find the least congested channel.
3. **Move APs away from interference sources** — Don't mount access points next to microwaves, electrical panels, or elevator shafts.
4. **Use DFS channels** — If your equipment supports it, DFS channels on 5 GHz offer additional spectrum with less competition.

### Smart Systems Approach

During installation, we perform a site survey that includes interference analysis. We select optimal channels and power levels to minimize interference from day one.
