## Identifying Dead Zones

A Wi-Fi dead zone is an area in your home where the wireless signal is too weak to maintain a reliable connection. Common dead zone locations include basements, far corners of the house, outdoor patios, and rooms with thick walls or large metal objects.

### Quick Checks Before Calling Us

1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone and walk to the problem area
2. Check the signal strength indicator — if it shows one bar or no connection, you have a dead zone
3. Try connecting to both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks if available — 2.4GHz has better range through walls

### Steps to Try

1. **Restart your access points** — Unplug the access point nearest to the dead zone for 30 seconds, then plug it back in
2. **Check for interference** — Large appliances, baby monitors, and metal surfaces can interfere with Wi-Fi signals
3. **Verify the access point is powered on** — Check that the LED on your Ubiquiti access point is solid white (normal operation)

### When to Contact Smart Systems

If dead zones persist after a reboot, you may need an additional access point installed or a repositioning of existing equipment. Contact us and we will perform a site survey to optimize your coverage.
